A Family BBQ - L'été de la Sympattitude
To be honest, as much as I am not really a family-oriented person, I always enjoy a fun afternoon with my family where we share food and stories. You may not know this about me but I have a deconstructed and reconstructed family. Sometimes it is hard to feel like you're part of it, but sometimes you feel so included it makes your heart explode. This exploding heart feeling was felt last Sunday at the family BBQ. Planned out months beforehand with a Doodle and a lot of chasing people around, we finally set a date and had ourselves a family BBQ.
My mum and Jacques always take such good care of us. That is why I was so happy to say that I was offered some BBQ sponsoring from Devos & Lemmens in the shape of meat, sauce and some veggies. Perfect ingredients for a wonderful time.
So Devos Lemmens decided to give people a gentle push and encourage them spending time together. And what better context to do this in than a yummy BBQ with your nearest and dearest. Open up your garden to your friends and family and make it a happy place for everyone to be in.
I think this Summer is the perfect time to motivate those closest to you and have a meal together. Think happy things together, do fun activities together. Why not organise a themed BBQ? (Ok, maybe that's more of a friend-BBQ thing ;) )
Here are some tips of mine that make a BBQ a success in my opinion:
- Always start off with a good m/cocktail or drink. It really sets the tone of the entire event.
- Get some shared starters going. You can cook these on the BBQ or beforehand, but to make it more convivial, I always go for the “tapas” way of serving my starters. This time we simply cut up some sausages and tried the different Devos & Lemmens sauces we got.
- Make some refreshing sides! These are always good. The BBQ’d meat can be somewhat heavy on the palate so it is always great to get some fresh and colourful sides going. Try my Summer salad!
- Just have fun with it, don't stress out; a BBQ is meant to be spontaneous and a moment of happiness and togetherness!
Enjoy! And may the BBQ gods be with you this Summer!
