Soft Flour Tortillas
Ok so I LOVE LOVE LOVE making my own flour tortillas. They are great because I can just use whichever kind of flour you use, you can make flour tortillas with different flavours.
I like to use 2:1 ration AP flour and buckwheat flour but you can do 100% AP of try wholewheat or why not even chestnut flour?
Just follow this recipe:
What do you need? (8 tortillas)
1 1/2 (210g) cup of flour. I used 1 cup (140g) regular and 1/2 (70g) cup buckwheat. This worked really well and made flavourful tortillas.
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
3 tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup + 1/4 cup (100 ml) of warm water
What do you need to do?
In a bowl of a stand mixer (or a regular bowl if youโre doing this by hand) stir together all the dry ingredients.
Then add in the wet ingredients and mix until incorporated and smooth.
Pop the dough unto a floured surface and cut into 8 equal pieces. Roll them into a small ball and push flat with the palm of your hand. Cover in flour and then with a clean dish towel and leave to rest between 30 minutes to an hour.
When rested, heat a pan on medium high and roll out your tortillas as thin as possible, using flour to stop it from sticking anywhere. Pop into a dry, hot pan and once bubbles start showing up, flip it! Then cook it for another 10-20 seconds. Put aside on a plate and continue to do this with all the other flour balls. Keep in mind if you cook them for too long, they wonโt be flexible and you cannot roll them properly.
You can keep these in the fridge for a couple of days. Try them with my carnitas or just fill them with salad, sweet potato, feta and avocado for a delicious lunch wrap!
